Police say the Darth Vader bank robber entered a Setauket, Chase bank branch on Long Island armed with a pistol and demanded money. When the teller complied the Dark Lord fled the bank through the parking lot and headed east.

The Bouquet Bandit was armed only with a fresh flower bouquet to conceal his note demanding cash during his $440 bank heist July 15 in Manhattan. The teller complied and the Bouquet Bandit fled on foot, leaving the flower bouquet behind.

Pemberton, who worked in New York City’s flower district, used a potted plant as a prop in a similar take the money and run holdup at another New York bank earlier this month.

The Bouquet Bandit bank robber is suspected of six bank robberies since 2008.

$35 Computer in India is World’s Cheapest

A $35 Computer has been launched by India’s Ministry of Human Resource Development as part of their program to provide high quality education to all Indian children. 

The $35 computer that will run on the Linux operating system will be Internet accessible, have web browsing, basic word processing and video chat capability.

India unveiled the prototype of the $35 basic laptop computer device in New Delhi on July 22. The ghetto Ipad uses a memory card instead of a hard disk and buyers will be able to purchase an optional solar power upgrade.

Oil Eating Bacteria used to Clean Up Oil Spill

Xinhua, the official news agency of China, reported that over 23 tons of oil-eating bacteria is being used to help clean up an oil spill in the Yellow Sea caused by a pipeline explosion and fire.

An estimated 1,500 tons of crude oil has spilled into the Yellow Sea near the northern port city of Dalian.

This is the first time China has made major use of biotechnology to solve an environmental pollution problem.

Beijing Micro-Cleaner Biotechnology, a Beijing-based biotechnology company provided the 23 tons of oil-eating bacteria.

The use of the oil-eating bacteria is a process known as bioremediation. Microorganisms break down toxic hydrocarbons present in crude oil into less harmful compounds.

Obama signs $34 Billion into law Unemployment Extension bill

Obama signed a $34 billion extension of long-term unemployment benefits for up to 99 weeks into law Thursday.

The welfare state measure was fiercely opposed by Republicans but cleared the Senate the day before, with no vote to spare.

Rep. Jeb Hensarling, the Republican from Texas said ” I haven’t heard anybody say we shouldn’t be extending unemployment benefits. The difference is one side wants to borrow 34 cents on the Dollar [mainly from the Chinese] and send the bill to our children and our grandchildren.”
