BlackBerry Ban in UAE and Saudi Arabia

A BlackBerry Ban has been announced for the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia by Oct 11, 2010.

The UAE claims BlackBerry features operate outside the country’s laws causing social and national security concerns.  

BlackBerry’s data is encrypted and routed through RIM’s servers overseas meaning it cannot be monitored in Dubai for illegal activity.

Research in Motion said it would not give in to the Arab nation’s demand as they do not disclose details of discussions worldwide so both countries will restrict the use of BlackBerry mobile communication devices in the Middle East.

The BlackBerry ban would inconvenience business travelers and 100,000 foreigners and locals passing daily through the Dubai International Airport.

The UAE BlackBerry ban will also affect roaming services on foreign BlackBerry phones, plus e-mails, instant messaging and internet browsing.

WikiLeaks has previously released classified, private e-mails of former Alaska Governor and US Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin and published sensitive Swiss banking information.
