Bernice Gallego a Fresno antiques dealer recently listed a baseball card on eBay with the bidding starting at $10. When she got more inquiries than expected about its condition Gallego canceled the auction and looked into what she had.
Turns out it was an Extremely Rare 1869 Cincinnati Red Stockings Baseball Card – one of the first baseball cards ever printed and is worth six figures – more than $100,000 USD. I’d Be Smiling too.
The 1869 Baseball Card is so Rare that Experts are trying to Determine its Value. The Fresno woman is listing it again on eBay and will have enough to Retire in style. Congratulations Bernice. Make Money – Be Happy.
The 1869 Peck & Snyder Baseball Card – Red Stocking B.B. Club of Cincinnati featuring ten players – is of the first professional baseball team – the Cincinnati Red Stockings. Formed in 1868 , the team set the foundation for what we today call Major League Baseball – MLB.
The Red Stockings brought in the best baseball players from around the country. They went around and challenged all comers and were undefeated – winning by 30 , 40 sometimes 50 Runs a Game. These were the First All-Stars. In 1871 – what the Red Stockings started would evolve into the first baseball league and the first sports league.
In 1869 the team’s picture ended up on the front of a card advertising Peck & Snyder – a baseball equipment company. The 1869 Peck & Snyder card was larger and focused on the whole team – not individual players like today.
A piece of history has been unearthed in unlikely Fresno California.
